Hervör Alma Árnadóttir is a PhD candidate focusing on children’s and young people’s participation in research, with emphasis on sensitive contexts such as child protection and welfare services in Iceland. Her work explores the ethical and methodological challenges of involving children in research, the role of gatekeepers in enabling or limiting access, and professionals’ understandings of participation and protection. Drawing on critical social constructionism and childhood studies, the research emphasizes children as social actors whose voices are vital in shaping their own lives and social environments. The doctoral project is based on four peer-reviewed articles, each addressing different aspects of children’s participation, access, and creative research methods.
