Sprettur is a project at the Division of Academic Affairs at the University of Iceland, designed for students with immigrant backgrounds who come from non-academic families. 

Participants learn more about themselves, their communities and higher education through workshops, study groups, cultural events and mentoring. Students take part in Sprettur for four years and attend various get-togethers three times a month. 

What do I gain?

Can I participate?

  • If you are at least 18 years old.
  • If you have finished at least one year of secondary school.
  • If you are registered in full-time studies at a secondary school.
  • If you want to finish secondary school and go on to university.
  • If your parents and their parents were born abroad, whether you were also born abroad or not.
  • If few or no members of your family have a university degree.
How to apply

You need to fill in an online application and have someone who knows you (but not a relative) fill in this letter of recommendation.

All applicants will be contacted and invited for interviews in April.
