Nordic Association of University Administrators

University of Iceland has been a member of NUAS for several years along with 64 other Nordic universities and university colleges. NUAS, the Nordic Association of University Administrators, is a member-driven collaborative organisation.

The organisation aims to work together to improve administrative solutions in universities, with a focus on development and cooperation between different departments.

NUAS organises seminars, workshops and the NUAS Programme for Leaders in Administration, in addition to the informal dialogue among interest groups.

Participating in NUAS can broaden your horizons, enrich your knowledge and provide you with the tools and connections needed to excel in your role as a university administrator. It offers a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth while contributing to the advancement of the Nordic higher education sector as a whole.

NUAS runs the following interest groups that focus on specific areas of administration. A total of 125 active members are part of these groups.

  1. ARCHIVES AND RECORDS MANAGEMENT - University administrators, archivists, case handlers, document managers, people working with digitalisation and information management.
  2. BOARD OF DIRECTORS
  3. COMMUNICATION - Nordic university employees who work, wholly or partly, with communication.
  4. ECONOMY - Mainly those who work with planning processes and efficiency, in particular personnel with operational responsibility for these functions and processes.
  5. FACILITIES AND ENVIRONMENT - Administrators managing real estate and facilities. Managers and technical staff responsible for developing and maintaining university infrastructure (campuses, buildings, technical infrastructure etc.), organising maintenance, cleaning and other support services or otherwise handling environmental issues.
  6. FACULTY ADMINISTRATION - Administrative directors and leaders with general administrative or service responsibilities for their organisation, e.g. heads of faculty, administrative managers, heads of administration, service managers and equivalent, middle management in the university. All other university administrators are welcome too, if interested in our groups’ events.
  7. HUMAN RESOURCES - University HR staff and leaders.
  8. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY - IT directors and other senior IT personnel.
  9. INTERNATIONAL ADMISSIONS AND RECOGNITION OF QUALIFICATIONS - Admissions officers, credential evaluators and others working within the group’s focus area.
  10. INTERNATIONALIZATION - Primarily administrative staff at all levels who work with internationalization.
  11. LEGAL - Legal advisers working with legal administrative matters at Nordic universities.
  12. LIBRARY - Professionals working in libraries, information services, and corresponding university units.
  13. RESEARCH AND INNOVATION - Administrators employed at all levels with responsibility for tasks related to research and innovation.
  14. STUDENT ADMINISTRATION AND COUNSELLING - Staff working with student administration - with a particular focus on academic and career counsellors.
  15. SUSTAINABILITY -  Staff members interested in sustainability issues, education and research. Sustainability / environmental / CSR directors, managers and coordinators.

Through various activities, workshops and training sessions, participants will learn about strategies and approaches to create a healthier and more balanced work environment for university staff. The goal is to improve overall well-being and productivity while fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere within administrative teams at Nordic universities.

The overall theme of the 2023-2024 programme is the role and responsibility of an administrative leader in creating and maintaining a sustainable work culture in Nordic universities.

A programme facilitating staff members from different universities to exchange and work in each other's institutions. This is a way to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and enhance professional development among the participating universities' staff.
