The University of Iceland Science Park is 94.6% owned by the University and 5.4% by the City of Reykjavík. The Science Park was created to promote innovation in partnership with companies, research institutions and other universities as well as to create facilities for entrepreneurs.
The UI Science Park is modelled on science parks in Europe and the United States, where centres like this have been developing rapidly. Research shows that collaboration between universities and the private and public sectors is highly productive when innovation centres are built near strong universities.
