To ensure successful implementation of this policy, the University will follow these guiding principles:
- Academic integrity: Students and staff are responsible for all material that they present under their own names and must respect rules and standards for ethics and good scientific practice. If students break the rules that instructors set for the use of AI for assignments, essays or exams, they may be subject to sanctions as appropriate, in accordance with Article 19 of the Act on Public Higher Education Institutions. Students must always disclose the use of AI in accordance with the rules have been set.
- Standardised guidelines: The University will develop a clear, standardised template for guidelines on the use of AI in courses and administration in order to prevent inconsistencies and uncertainty among students and staff.
- Information security, human rights and data protection: All use, development and implementation of AI systems will comply with existing data protection law. Clear rules will be set for third parties handling University data and staff will be provided with clear data protection guidelines.
- Integration and cooperation: Implementation and use of AI will be integrated into the activities of existing core units (e.g. Division of Academic Affairs, Division of Information Technology and Division of Science and Innovation) to ensure professional accountability and institution-wide cooperation.
