About the UI Archives

The main purpose of the University Archives is to collect, organise and preserve all University records and documents that are either of practical use or historical value to the University.

The Archives' treasures are both varied and extensive, bearing witness to over a century of UI history. The Archives include a wide range of materials: papers, photos, posters, artifacts, films, and more.

The University Archives is located in the Main Building.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the University Archive is to: 

  • encourage and support administrators at the University to make efficient use of electronic records management
  • resolve specific problems related to records management
  • gather records from offices and divisions across the University
  • run a records management centre for UI records
  • provide training and support for staff working in records management
  • share information on the various filing equipment used at the University
