
The main job of the Rector's Office is to support the rector of the University of Iceland. The Rector's Office also protects the University's interests, helps to implement the overall strategy of UI, and oversees institution-wide policy making and development. The University Archives are part of the Rector's Office.
The Office oversees central administration, University Council meetings, the University General Forum, the open annual forum, and the rector's meeting with school deans.
The Office coordinates official communication with the government, the private sector and other universities and institutions on behalf of the University as a whole.
The Office of the Rector is also responsible for organising graduations, doctoral defences and staff acknowledgements as well as symposia, conferences, lectures and events hosted by the rector.
The Office works in close collaboration with the pro-rectors, the director of central administration, school deans, faculty heads, directors of institutes and administrative division directors.
Further responsibilities of the Office include:
- processing enquiries sent to the University
- holding interviews
- sharing information with students and staff
- allocating grants from the University of Iceland Research Fund
- publishing the University Yearbook
- overseeing University Council committees and task forces
