Accommodation options

Downtown Reykjavík has numerous hostels and hotels that are within walking distance from the University of Iceland. Below is a short list of hotels for those in search of recommendations. No block bookings have been made, as Reykjavik offers a wide range of accommodation in various price categories.


KEX Hostel
This trendy hostel is housed in an old biscuit factory in downtown Reykjavík. Their restaurant and bar are popular with both locals and tourists. They offer private rooms as well as shared dormitories.

Loft Hostel
Loft Hostel is located in a lively part of downtown Reykjavík and has a large rooftop café and bar with a great view. They offer both private rooms as well as shared dormitories. 
Distance: 1,6 km (approx. 20 minutes by walking)


Hótel Hilda
Hótel Hilda is conveniently located in a quiet residential neighbourhood within easy walking distance from the University. It is not a typical hotel as the house was formerly a large family home that has been renovated and changed to adapt to its new role as a hotel.
Distance: 1,2 km (approx. 15 minutes by walking)

CenterHotel Plaza
The hotel is in the city centre of Reykjavík and within walking distance to the University of Iceland. The hotel chain CenterHotel also has other options in the downtown area that can be explored from their website.

Radisson Blu Hótel Saga 
Across the street from the University of Iceland is Hótel Saga which has a long history of offering accommodation to visitors. It has recently been renovated and offers comfortable rooms and good service. 
Distance: 500 m (approx. 5 minutes by walking)

Hotel Reykjavík Centrum
The hotel is on one of the country’s oldest streets and is housed in a renovated building. They offer a range of rooms and are conveniently located close to the University and the main city centre.  
Distance: 1 km (approx. 13 minutes by walking)
