University Council nominates dr. Jón Atli Benediktsson as Rector for the next five years

The University Council agreed yesterday to nominate dr. Jón Atli Benediktsson, Professor of electrical and computer engineering as Rector of the University of Iceland for the next five years. Jón Atli has held the position of Rector from 2015.

The office of Rector for the University of Iceland was advertised in December and the deadline passed on 3 January 2020. Jón Atli Benediktsson was the sole applicant.

A subcommittee to the University Council evaluates whether applicants fulfil the required eligibility for the position of rector. The University Council decided during their meeting yesterday to write a letter to the Minister of Education, Science and Culture and nominate Jón Atli Benediktsson as Rector of the University of Iceland from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2025.
