The University of Iceland among top performers for international research collaboration

The University of Iceland among top performers for international research collaboration  - Available at University of Iceland

The University of Iceland is among the top 25 universities for international joint publications. This is in accordance with a new list published by U-Multirank, an independent online ranking system that compares universities' performance in various areas. It is intended as a resource to help students, for example, compare universities in different countries. The University of Iceland has been included on the list twice previously.

U-Multirank was founded on the initiative of the EU Commission, under the leadership of European experts in higher education. For many years, U-Multirank has published lists of this kind, for example looking at teaching and learning at universities, research, knowledge transfer, international collaboration and local impact. The evaluation is based on data from the universities themselves, information obtained from international data banks, and surveys conducted among over 100,000 students at the participating universities.

The rankings are intended to allow students to compare universities in certain countries, for example based on a certain subject or ties with industry and international communities, and support them to make an informed choice of university and study programme. The U-Multirank lists differ, therefore, from the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy Academic Ranking of World Universities, both of which have included the University of Iceland in recent years. The U-Multirank World University Rankings this year cover almost 2,000 universities in 96 countries and have never been more extensive, including more than 5,000 faculties and more than 12,000 study programmes across 30 subject areas

U-Multirank also publishes lists of the top 25 performing universities in certain areas. These lists focus on, for example, contact to work environment, continuous professional development, patents awarded, research publications, top cited publications, student mobility, co-publications with industrial partners, and international joint publications.

It is the list for international joint publications that this year features the University of Iceland in third place, having also included UI in 2018 and 2019. All universities on the list publish over 75% of academic articles as co-publications with international partners, which is testament to extremely strong ties with the international academic community.

The lists of Top 25 Performers in specific areas can be found on the U-Multirank website.
