""

The University of Iceland is ranked between 126-150 in the field of life sciences and between 176-200 in the field of physical sciences on the new Times Higher Education University Rankings. The University is, furthermore, ranked between 301-400 in the field of psychology and health sciences. This autumn, the University of Iceland has been placed on six of the magazine's lists over the best universities in the world in specific fields of study; underlining the university's position on the international scene.

Times Higher Education published four lists over the best universities in the world in specific fields of study last week. When evaluating individual fields of study, the same 13 separate performance indicators are considered as when the University as a whole is evaluated; i.e. research activity, international impact, teaching, and study environment. Research and publishing traditions in each field of study receive special attention.

The evaluation of Times Higher Education of the best universities in the field of life sciences is comprised of the University's performance in various subjects; biology, sport and health sciences, agriculture and veterinary medicine. Over 750 universities are listed on the Times Higher Education list in this field and the University of Iceland is placed between 126-150.

The evaluation of Times Higher Education of the best universities in the field of physical sciences is comprised of mathematics, statistics, physics, astrophysics, and chemistry as well as earth sciences, environmental science and oceanography. According to Times Higher Education criteria the University of Iceland is ranked between 176 - 200 in the field of physical sciences out of the 960 universities that made the list.

The evaluation within the field of clinical, pre-clinical and health is comprised of medicine, odontology and health sciences.  The University of Iceland is ranked between 301-400 in this field out of the 720 universities on the list. The University is furthermore ranked between 301-400 in psychology; but this is the first time the University of Iceland has a place on the Times Higher Education in that field of study.

In addition to the having made the Times Higher Education list in the above fields of study it is among the 250 best in humanities in the world, and between 251-300 in social sciences. Times Higher published a list of the best universities in the world earlier this semester, evaluating the overall performance of universities worldwide. The University of Iceland was ranked between 251-300 on that list.

The Times Higher Education list is one of the most influential and prestigious of its kind. The other one is the Shanghai Global Rankings; which the University of Iceland made for the first time last year.

Times Higher Education has yet to publish one list this season, the one on the best universities worldwide in the field of engineering, technology, and computer science.
