New book on Children’s advice about School and Age Care

""

The book Listening to Children’s Advice about Starting School and School Age Care was recently published. The editors are Sue Dockett professor at Charles Sturt University in Australia, Jóhanna Einarsdóttir professor at the University of Iceland, and Bob Perry professor emeritus also at Charles Sturt University.

The book contains eleven chapters all emphasising the importance of listening to and respecting children’s perspectives at the time of their transitions to school and school age care. Using examples of practice and offering practical and theoretical insights, the book illustrates the multiplicity of children’s perspectives, and prompts educators to reflect on and critique practice.

The chapters report research conducted in seven different countries to highlight approaches that acknowledge and respect children’s input, and use this as a basis for critical reflection on practice. The book provokes a deep level of critical reflection and practice/policy development that is informed by a dialogue between research and practice.

The authors and editors of Listening to Children's Advice about Starting School and School Age care recommend it to researchers, students, educators and practitioners involved in young children’s transitions to school and school-age care. Kolbrún Þ. Pálsdóttir, dean of the School of Education, and Sara M. Ólafsdóttir project manager at the same school also write a chapter in the book.

The renowned publishing company Routledge publishes the book.

Jóhanna Einarsdóttir professor at the University's Scool of Education is one of three editors of the recently published book on Listening to Children’s Advice about Starting School and School Age Care.
