Invisible no more #WIKI4WOMEN

The University of Iceland, Reykjavík University, The University of Akureyri, and the Iceland Academy of the Arts in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture organize the event #wiki4women in celebration of the International Women's Day 2019.

The aim is to answer an appeal from UNESCO and Wikimedia Foundation to promote better presentation and coverage of women on Wikipedia. According the the latest numbers from UNESCO there are 12,152 profiles on Icelanders. Thereof only 19% on Icelandic women opposed to 81% on Icelandic men. The focus will be on profiles of women committed in the fields of education, science, culture, social and human sciences, or communication and information.

The universities and the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture urge students and staff to join hands and change the statistics on the International Women's Day. Let's make women visible and contribute to better coverage on women on the internet.

Join by writing or translating profiles of women on 8 March. There will be a list of names of women to write about. Participants are asked to bring their own laptops.

The event starts at 15:00 on Friday in Gimli 102.

How do I participate?
1. Create a Wikipedia account
2. Choose from a number of women to write about (see Facebook-event in Icelandic)
