Among the 300 best in Social Sciences second year in a row

The University of Iceland is ranked between 251-300 in the field of Social Sciences on the Times Higher Education University Rankings published on 17 October. 

The Times Higher Education magazine has published a list of the best universities in the world for the last 15 years and the University of Iceland has been ranked consecutively among the 300 best since 2011. Times Higher has, furthermore, published a list of the best Universities in individual fields of study in recent years, and this year is no exemption.

When evaluating individual fields of study, the same 13 separate performance indicators are considered as when the University as a whole is evaluated; i.e. research activity, international impact, teaching, and study environment. Research and publishing traditions in each field of study receive special attention.

Times Higher Education published their first lists over the best universities in the world in by subject on 17 October and the University of Iceland is ranked among the 300 best in the field of social sciences. The evaluation of Times Higher Education of the best universities in the field of social studies comprises, media and communication studies, political science and international affairs, sociology and geography. 

The Times Higher Education list is one of the most influential and prestigious of its kind. The other one is the Shanghai Global Rankings; which the University of Iceland made for the first time last year. The Shanghai Ranking also comprised individual fields of study and the University of Iceland is ranked between 101-150 in the field of geography and in 301-400 in political science this year.

The Times Higher Education will publish lists of the best universities in the world in eleven fields of study this autumn; these are humanities, bioscience, psychology, medicine and public health sciences, natural sciences, engineering, technology, and computer sciences.
