Almost seven hundred new international students embark on their studies

Orientation Days for International students at the University of Iceland began yesterday and continue until 24 August. Almost seven hundred international students begin their studies at the University this autumn, thereof 240 exchange students and 450 degree students. The programme includes various interesting courses, organised walks around campus, reception with music and grilled hot dogs, School welcome meetings and events organised by the Student Council. The aim is to introduce students to each other as well as to the support services offered, how to get around campus, and to help them adjust to a new culture.

The course, The Keys to Success at the University of Iceland, organised by the UI Student and Career Counselling will be available, where students are are given pointers on how to succeed in their studies at the University, and enjoy their stay in Iceland.  For those wanting a crash course in Icelandic can sign up forIcelandic in 90 minutes. The National and University Library will furthermore give a glimpse of what they have to offer. 

All new international students are invited to a welcome reception 23 August at the University Centre. Students will be addressed by the Rector of the University and Elísabet Brynjarsdóttir, president of the Student Council. The Student Council's international committee takes students on a guided tour around the Campus ending in barbecued Icelandic hot dogs and music. The fun then continues in the Student Cellar where DJ Fonetik Simbol play for guests.
