Abstract

Nordlys Network

The International Division manages the Nordlys network for the university and both students and staff can apply for mobility grants from the office. Students can apply for exchange studies at the partner universities in most study programmes.

Students can apply for traditional exchange semesters but also for shorter mobilities, from five days. Students have to find suitable courses offered by one of the Nordlys partners. The course must be credit-bearing and be approved by the student’s UI faculty.

Students can, for example, take summer courses or intensive courses at the host university and it is also possible to take courses at UNIS in Svalbard.

Abstract

Developing fermented products made from Icelandic lupins

18/08/2020 - 14:07

Lupins are extremely prevalent here in Iceland, yet remain a little utilised resource. In other countries, the lupin has been used as food for humans and animals, since it is rich in protein and energy as well as starch. It is considered particularly good for ruminants, as well as pigs and birds. The Icelandic lupin is more bitter than foreign, sweeter varieties and animals have therefore rejected it.

The goal of the research, conducted this summer in cooperation with the Student Innovation Fund, is to find uses for the Icelandic lupin, both in human food and animal feed for farming. The project is an extension of Braga Stefaný Mileris' doctoral thesis. Braga Stefaný started work on a basic analysis of the contents of different parts of the lupin in autumn 2019.

Title: Auðna Tæknitorg / TTO Iceland - Coordinating technology transfer in Iceland and beyond

Abstract: Science in Iceland scores high with regard to impact of scientific publications and collaboration across borders.  However, this has not translated successfully into innovation and commercialization of scientific results, as pointed out in various external analyses of the scientific and innovation environment in Iceland.  The scientific community and its institutions have responded by opening up a discussion among themselves, inviting foreign experts in the field to share their experiences and ultimately after two years of preparation, by establishing Auðna Tæknitorg aka TTO Iceland.
