PhD in Food Science - Available at University of Iceland

The PhD Programme in Food Science offers exciting collaboration with the industry, the guidance of distinguished scientists and connections to prestigious universities abroad.

The PhD programme in Food Science is based on 180 ECTS of academic and technical research projects which establish new knowledge and innovation. All research and graduate students have the option of completing a part of their studies abroad, subject to the supervisor's guidanceþ There is a strong emphasis on publication of research findings in internationally recognized research journals. 

Collaboration and Research 

The Faculty has great collaboration with the local industry. The PhD programme in food science is taught in collaboration with Matís (the Icelandic Food Research Institute). The PhD students participate in exciting projects and research at Matís with the goal of increasing the competitive advantage of Icelandic food industry and increase food quality and safety. There is also collaboration with other Icelandic government research institutions such as Landspítali University Hospital and the Veterinary Research Institute.

The faculty participates in many international research projects and cooperates with renowned researchers in Europe and the USA, as well as the food industry in Iceland. Graduates will be exposed to the industry and gain experience in cooperating with food professionals in Iceland and abroad, forming ties that may last through a successful carrier. PhD Programme with and International Quality Assurance

PhD studies at the School of Health Sciences has been awarded an ORPHEUS (Organisation for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System) label for excellence in PhD training. The University of Iceland is the 5th University in Europe to receive the label.
