What the Crisis in America’s Democracy Says About Democracy Anywhere
Veröld - Hús Vigdísar
Auditorium
Democratic Constitutional Design (DCD) presents:
Lawrence Lessig, Professor of constitutional law, Harvard University
A talk in Veröld, main auditorium (023), Thursday 23 January, 16:00-17:30
What the Crisis in America’s Democracy Says About Democracy Anywhere
In this talk, Professor Lessig shows how the present crisis in America’s democracy is less about America, and more about democracy anywhere. Drawing on an understanding of the technology that America has helped spread to the world, Lessig shows how the current state of media, whether social or not, affects democracy fundamentally. The world desperately needs a practice of democracy that can flourish, given the perpetual distraction of modern technologies. This talk points theory in that direction.
