Arabic is spoken in many countries over a large geographic area. Each country has developed its own variety of Arabic. Diglossia is a salient characteristic of Arabic, where localized dialects/languages coexist with a more formal variety understood across the Arab world, the Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). These and several other issues pose certain challenges to the teacher of Arabic, some of which are common to other languages as well, and some which are specific to Arabic.
The talk will be in Icelandic. Free admission. All are welcome.
