The Iceland Research Institute of Space Science, UI Science Park, The University of Iceland, the NASA Heliophysics Division, Iceland Space Agency (ISA), and the HPC / AI competency Center welcome everyone on June 10th from 1-3pm at Gróska as we explore the research and opportunities that exist for Iceland in Space research and exploration.

The event will start with a short welcome address followed by an overview by Daniel Leeb, CEO of ISA, of Iceland’s rich legacy in space science and exploration, where the past, present, and future will be discussed from Apollo to Artemis and beyond.

After the Moon, we will venture much further to our nearest star: Dr. Kelly Korreck, Living with a Star Program Scientist from the NASA Heliophysics Division will discuss current research focused on our Sun and projects that will be taking place this August 2026 during the solar eclipse.

Professor Morris Riedel will present some of the cutting edge research being done here at Haskoli Íslands at the HPC / AI competency center that involve remote sensing from space and the incredible HPC/AI work being done here on earth.

Dr. Jón Emil Guðmundsson from the UI School of Engineering and Natural Sciences will discuss the creation of Iceland’s first Cryostat, which will allow Icelandic students and researchers to test instruments destined for the harshest environments of space.

Finally, a panel consisting of three NASA Heliophysics Division members — Program Scientist Dr. Korreck, Operations Lead Denise Hill, and Deputy Director Nicki Rayl, — will discuss the diverse and inspiring career paths and opportunities that exist in space science, communication, and exploration that exist for Iceland’s next generation of researchers and space explorers.

Refreshments will be courtesy of the US Embassy.
