Abstract:
This thesis is about redesigning a rodding machine base that is used in Elkem Iceland. The redesign is necessary because of design flaws in previous designs. Mainly because of effects that a torque force has on the rodding machine base when it is being used. The final redesign is looked at as well as seven other previous designs that were made. The main changes that were made in the redesign is that the body of the rodding machine base is made from square profiles instead of cylinders, a splash guard is added and copper plates that will take the fretting corrosion were added. The redesign had some constraints regarding how the rodding machine base is to be fastened to the tapping platform and the rodding machine. Stress analysis is made to check if the redesign can handle the forces that it will be subdued to.
