How to motivate students using new technological tools and active learning methodologies like Flipped Learning or Challenge Based Learning with SL and DT/ECO

In this seminar, practical examples of the use of active learning methodologies like Flipped Learning and Challenge Based Learning with Service Learning (SL), Design Thinking and ECO will be presented. ECO (Explore, Create and Offer) is a methodology that is being developed at the University of Sevilla. It is based on Design Thinking. It offers students the opportunity to design and develop a project based on a need or challenge of society that has to be identified by the students.

By empathising with the people who have the need and trying to offer an innovative solution to it, students build knowledge about the subject matter. Students are treated like future professionals and a learning environment that is both rich and challenging is created.

In the second part of the seminar, we will discuss and demonstrate how to use new technological tools and applications to implicate and to motivate students to learn in a more effective way and to facilitate the work in teams. The widespread use of online learning technologies caused by the COVID 19 pandemic should facilitate the cooperation among faculty and students from different areas of knowledge and different universities to create interdisciplinary teams to carry out the SL and DT/ECO projects. This is the new challenge on which Juan Pablo Mora and his linguistics students will embark during the 2020-21 academic year.
