Migratory birds are the true indicator of spring in Iceland. Gunnar Þór Hallgrímsson, professor in zoology, and Tómas Grétar Gunnarsson, director of the South Iceland Research Centre, guide a tour on a Reykjavík beach where birds gather. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and even books on birds. The tour takes approx two hrs.

The tour is a collaboration between the Icelandic Touring Association and the University of Iceland. Hiking trips with Science tips (Með fróðleik í fararnesti).

Participants of all ages have enjoyed these hikes with the University of Iceland and the Icelandic Touring Association in recent years, which combine the experience and knowledge of the tour guides with the knowledge of academics. The aim is to create interest in science and outdoor activities, especially children and young people, with this welcome alternative.

Participation is free of charge and everyone is welcome. No need to book - simply show up.
