In her presentation, Elina Pekkarinen brings up current themes in the Finnish discussions on child’s rights.

Many phenomena constrict the public sector: reform for social and health services was rejected last spring, the number of elderly is rapidly increasing, birth rate is historically low, children’s mental health issues and need for child welfare services continue to increase at the same time as compulsory education will be prolonged till the age of 18. Government is preparing a child strategy to respond to the needs of children in the long run, but the issues are already on the policymakers desks.
