Globally, there is a call for more personnel in welfare and health services, but at the same time there are limits to the number of students and space for students in practical training. In response to this, simulation centers and pre-clinical education have been established where students receive practical and clinical training. There are growing demands to strengthen this activity in Iceland and to take into account successful actions in other universities. The University of Iceland is a partner of Riga Stradins University in Latvia, where in the last 10 years there has been a systematic work on improving the conditions for simulation centers and pre-clinical education for students in health and social subjects. It has been so successful that Stradins University in Riga is among the most technologically advanced in this field.

Professor Signe Tomsone, dean of the Department of Rehabilitation at Stradins University of Riga, will at an open seminar present and share the university's focus in the field of pre-educational training with simulation centers. In her presentation, she will also show some pictures of the facilities and equipment and communicate plans for further development of the pre-clinical education in Riga Stradins University.
