The University Forum is a collegial forum for faculties and institutions but it does not have direct executive power or a mandate for administrative decisions. The University Forum works towards the development and enhancement of the University of Iceland. The Forum creates and proposes a joint strategy for research and teaching at the University. It is expected that motions approved by the University Forum will inform the strategy taken by the University Council and the rector.
Members of the University Forum are:
- The rector
- Heads of University faculties
- Additional faculty representatives as per the relevant rules
- Representatives for some UI institutions
- Representatives of staff, administration and students
- The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation
