International Staff - Nordic Citizens

Citizens of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland do not need a residence permit to live and work in Iceland. However, we strongly recommend that you secure housing prior to your arrival. See more under Housing.

Once you have moved to Iceland and found suitable housing, we recommend registering your legal residence at Registers Iceland. There, you can also apply for an Iceland ID number (kennitala). See more under Upon Arrival.

Bringing your family
Family members who are citizens of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland do not need a residence permit to live and work in Iceland. If your family members are not Nordic citizens, they are eligible for residence permits on grounds of family reuinification.
