Geir Sigurðsson was appointed in a half-time position as an Assistant Professor at the School of Humanities from 1st May 2008, at the same time he serves as Head of the Icelandic Centre for Asian Studies - ASÍS, which is an institution run in collaboration between the University of Iceland and the University of Akureyri. Geir completed a doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Hawaii in 2004. He completed a Master's degree in Philosophy from University College Cork in 1997 and a B.A. in Philosophy and Sociology from the University of Iceland in 1994. Geir studied Chinese and Philosophy at the Renmin University of China in Beijing from 2001 to 2003.
Geir has been Head of the Icelandic Centre for Asian Studies - ASÍS since 2006. He was an Assistant Professor at the University of Akureyri Faculty of Law and Social Sciences from 2005 to 2006 and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Education, University of Akureyri from 2006 to 2007.
Geir's research fields are Chinese philosophy and contemporary Chinese studies, philosophy of education, ethics and western philosophy.
Geir's main collaborators are the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies and the Icelandic Philosophical Society.
