The Faculty of Social Work is a strong faculty within the School of Social Sciences at the University of Iceland. There are roughly 450 students studying at the faculty, taught by 11 tenured lecturers, 9 adjunct lecturers, many sessional teachers and roughly 40 teacher trainees.

The dean of the faculty is Sigurveig H. Sigurðardóttir (sighsig@hi.is) and the vice dean is Steinunn Hrafnsdóttir (steinhra@hi.is).

The faculty operates the Centre for Children and Family Research, which plays host to seminars, research projects and conferences.

The association of social work students is called Mentor. It is responsible for various student events and is an advocate for students’ rights. A student representative sits on the faculty council, comprised of tenured lecturers.

The Faculty of Social Work and its related centres strive to provide the best possible service to students. The service desk in the University Centre provides students with services and information regarding studies, course selection, student exchange programmes, housing, rights, etc. Representatives of the Registration Office, Student Counselling and Career Centre, Office of International Education, Icelandic Student Services and Students’ Council work there.
