The doctoral programme at the School of Education is offered independent of faculty. Two degree programmes are offered:
- Educational sciences, Ph.D., 180-240 ECTS (journal articles or dissertation)
- Educational sciences, Ed.D., 180 ECTS
The goal of the doctoral programme at the University of Iceland, School of Education, is to bolster the abilities of candidates in independent scientific research and scholarly activities. In addition to this, the doctoral programme at the School of Education is intended to bolster Icelandic research in the fields of nurture, training, pedagogy, leisure and education.
The doctoral programme at the School of Education is based on the following components:
- Research methods courses
- Other courses within the candidate’s selected specialisation - chosen in consultation with supervisors
- University studies overseas. Candidates are expected to spend 2-6 months at an overseas higher education institution
The structure of doctoral studies, and the appointing of supervisors for doctoral projects, is determined by the doctoral studies coordinator, in consultation with the Doctoral Board.
