Students can apply for exchange programmes at UI partner institutions for one or two semesters. In most cases tuition fees are waived at the hosting institution, but students pay UI registration fees. The hosting institution assists students with finding accommodation. The Nordplus and Erasmus exchange programmes offer grants, travel grants and residence grants.
Exchange programmes offer students the chance to get to know a new country, culture, language and people, as well as increasing study options. Reports and surveys have shown that studying temporarily in a foreign country can be very rewarding, on educational, social and personal levels. Experience of a foreign country increases a student's ability to adapt to diverse circumstances, and increases multicultural communication skills. This experience is a significant asset when entering the professional sector.
UI partners with institutions through Nordplus in the Nordic and Baltic regions, through Erasmus in Europe and through many bilateral agreements with individual universities across the globe.
