The book "Childhood, Youth and Upbringing in the Age of Absolutism An Exercise in Socio-Demographic Analysis" by Loftur Guttormsson has been published. Loftur Guttormsson passed away last December.
 
This book was originally published by the Institute of History in 1983. The book was translated into English by Keneva Kunz. This is a pioneering work in the field of demography and family history in Iceland. The work introduces Icelandic readers to the theories of Philippe Aries, fitting them to an Icelandic reality. Comparing Icelandic family and upbringing to the European scene is an important part of the book.
 
The book is published by the Historical Institute and University of Iceland Press. Editors are Anna Agnarsdóttir and Ólöf Garðarsdóttir. This book is the first in a new series, The University of Iceland Historical Series and is 326 pages long.
