The University of Iceland announces a vacancy for the position of the of the Dean of the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences, one of the University’s five schools.
Dean of the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences, reports to the Rector. She/ he is the most senior administrator and academic leader of the School and oversees its daily management. The Dean works with a competent team of administrators and specialists.
The Dean's responsibilities include:
· carrying out University policy in the School's field
· finances and management of the School and affiliated institutes
· quality of teaching, research and service
· human resources
· maintaining team spirit and professional cooperation
· relations with domestic and foreign partners
· administration and support services of the school
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
· academic merits as well as knowledge and experience of work in universities and/or in academic research environments
· leadership skills
· an ambitious and clear vision for the future
· excellent communication skills
· experience in management and policy making
· fluency in icelandic and english language (spoken and written)
The new Dean will be appointed for a five-year period. It is preferable that he/ she take up the position July 1st 2017. A prolongation period of up to five years without advertising the position is authorised in accordance with regulations set by the University Council. The Dean is appointed by the Rector based on a review by a hiring committee.
Salary is in accordance with the collective wage agreement between the Minister of Finance and the relevant trade union.
