Who can assist me in my choice of study?
The Student Counselling and Career Center is open to all. The Student Counselling and Career Center offers open consultation hours during which the office on the 3rd floor of the University Center can be visited without prior appointment.

Where do I get a Student ID Card?
Applications for Student ID Cards are made online in Ugla Intranet. The Student ID Cards are issued in two different types of which you select one. One is an identity and a discount card but the other is an enhanced card that also allows additional access to some of the University buildings outside their usual opening hours. The enhanced card costs ISK 1,500 of wich ISK 1,000 are refunded upon return of the card. The identity card is free of charge.

How do I get access to buildings on the University campus after hours?
The enhanced Student ID Card gives added access to some University buildings outside there usual opening hours. Applications for Student ID Cards are made online in Ugla Intranet.

Where do I apply for student housing?
Student Housing offers students at the University of Iceland various sizes of rental accommodation at a fair price. All further information can be found at Félagsstofnun Stúdenta.
How do I register for courses at the University of Iceland?
Students are individually responsible for their studies and students at the University of Iceland register for courses through Ugla Intranet. Annual registration for the next academic year is in March each year in Ugla. In the beginning of each semester a review of registration is possible. For further information about review dates see the academic calendar.
How do I drop courses at the Univerisity of Iceland?
Students are individually responsible for their studies and students at the University of Iceland deregister from courses through Ugla Intranet (My Owl --> My Courses --> Drop). The deadline for dropping autumn semester courses is 1st October. For the spring semester the deadline is 1st February.
Do I need to register for examinations?
A registration for a course is the same as a registration for an examination. The only examinations that require separate registration are makeup examinations due to illness.
How do I deregister from an examination?
A deregistration from a course is a deregistration from an examination. You deregister from an examination in Ugla Intranet (My Owl --> My Courses --> Drop). The deadline for dropping autumn semester examination is 1st October. For the spring semester the deadline is 1st February.
What if I am ill at the time of the examination?
In order to avoid failing the course, a medical certificate must be handed in to the University Center Service Desk, opening hours Mon-Thurs 8:30-18, Fri 8:30-16, within three days of the final examination. The day of the exam is not included and if the third day is a weekend you hand in the medical certificate the next workday:

Before you hand in the medical certificate you have to write the course name and numer on the certificate.
If you want to take a makeup exam you register in Ugla Intranet 1-2 days after handing in the medical certificate.
If the exam is a mid-term exam a medical certificate shall be submitted to the faculty office or to the teacher in question.
What if I fail in an exam?
If you fail an examination you may resit the examination when a general examination is next held in the course and no late than within a year. In addition, faculties may, in consultation with the Director of Examinations, arrange special resit examinations in individual courses. Such special resit examinations are intended solely for students who previously have sat an examination in the respective course.
Students pay a fee of ISK 6,000 for each resit exam they register for.
Where do I get a bus pass?
Applications for Student bus passes are made online at www.straeto.is. Students must be domiciled in the capital area to be applicable for student bus passes. Students with temporary residence in Iceland i.e. are domiciled in another country can not apply for the sudent bus passes.
Where do I get various certificates, such as for rental subsidies, union refund, maternity leave, the Icelandic Student Loan Fund, preschools, unemployment benefits, etc.?

Yes, the University Center Service Desk can provide you with a description of the courses you have completed. The price of the description ranges from ISK 350 to ISK 1,750 depending on the number of courses. The description can only be posted to the student's registered permanent address. No documents are sent via email.

What do I do if I want to take a leave of absence for one year?
Students that wish to take a leave of absence must seek the permission of their respective faculties. When the permission has been granted, they must bring the faculty's confirmation of this to the University Center Service Desk and pay an ISK 7,500 permission fee.
I lost my Ugla Intranet password - what can I do?
You can come to the University Center Service Desk, opening hours opening hours Mon-Thurs 8:30-18, Fri 8:30-16 (summer hours Mon-Thurs 8:30-16:30, Fri 8:30-16) and receive a new password upon presentation of personal identification documents. A new password can also be issued at the Computer Services Service Desk, opening hours 8:00-16:00. Please note that passwords will not be sent via email.
Am I able to become an exchange student?
